S. Hendrickson, M. Stroup, St. Bartlett-Re, M. Dwyer, Fr R. Thompson, J. Klopacz, B. Barberini.
Sunday: generously participating parishioners
Today's readings will be Genesis 18:1-10a; Colossians 1:15-28; Luke 10:38-42.
The Rector is away on annual vacation until 14 August. All Church business should go initially to the Church Office 415-431-0454 (Monday through Friday 9:30am to 1:30pm). For pastoral emergencies only please call 415-948-6921.
Today, at 10:15am assemble in Lathrop Hall at 10:15am to depart for Canon Kip Community Center, where we will be distributing bagged lunches to the guests, a mixture of older low income people and street people, who appreciate our food as well as the time we take to show that we care as we shall be visiting with the guests also. Please sign up in Lathrop Hall if able to help. See Bonnie Barberini for details.
Next Sunday, remember one and all to bring some simple edible (e.g., a bag of cookies from the grocery store) or drink to share at coffee hour as we offer fellowship. As we have no designated hosts in the summer, any help setting up or cleaning up would be appreciated.
For the revival of the Sceptre, needed are an editor to manage it and also 2-3 people interested in being a part of the Publication Committee to work with the Editor. If interested, please contact Sam Cantin, Senior Warden, by early August.
Advertising Advent: the new sandwich board in front of Advent on Sunday mornings promoting the 11am High Mass and the music by Schola Adventus has recently appeared thanks to a very generous donation and effort by Jude Morton. Please express to Jude appreciation for the signage next time you see her.
Mid year statements are coming soon to your mailboxes along with a letter from the Vestry with a mid year Stewardship request because Advent has been operating with a deficit budget each year. The current budget for 2010 has a projected deficit of ca. $10,000. Accordingly, the Senior Warden is drafting a "Deficit Budget Wish List" that will also be issued in a later Orb. Any additional contributions, in any amount, are most welcome in these tough financial times. Please refer any questions to Sam Cantin, Senior Warden, or Jack Jensen, Treasurer.
Mark your calendar for the parish potluck picnic in our own verdant garden on Saturday afternoon, 14 August, an occasion of fellowship to welcome Suellen's mother as we so warmly did back in 2005. More details to follow in subsequent Orbs.
Our Altar Guild needs you: if able to help prepare the vessels and vestments for Sunday Masses, please contact Anna McHargue (annamchargue@aol.com) for information and training in this invaluable ministry that sustains our worship.
A call for female choristers: In the absence of Schola Adventus this summer, Paul Ellison would like to establish a women’s chant choir to assist in singing on 8 and 22 August. Any female volunteers who would like to sing in this group should contact Paul soon (music@advent-sf.org) as he plans to hold an audition in late July. It is important to have a basic knowledge of chant notation (square note notation). In order for the group to be viable, we need at least four singers.
A new dean for Grace Cathedral has been selected: the Rev Dr Jane Shaw from Oxford University. The date of her installation has yet to be determined.
Next Sunday's readings will be Genesis 18:20-32; Colossians 2:6-15; Luke 11:1-13.
Pray with thanksgiving for the members of the Altar Guild:
Bless, we beseech thee, O Lord, the hands of those devoted to the care and keeping of thy sanctuary; and grant that, as their labors lift up our hearts in the beauty of holiness, so may their hearts even now catch glimpses of heavenly beauty; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
