Welcome to the website of Church of the Advent of Christ the King, a parish of the Episcopal Church. We are an Anglo-Catholic church, that is, one with a strong emphasis on worship and the life of prayer. Here, in addition to a warm welcome by a diverse group of people, you will find an atmosphere of quiet reflection on the presence of God, great beauty in the visual aspects of corporate worship, and music that inspires and transforms. Here, through our life of prayer, you will find people committed to bringing the love of God, Incarnate in his Son, into the lives of all. I hope that we can touch your life with that love as you join us in worship of the Creator.

Volunteer Opportunities

Up-coming opportunity to provide lunch at Canon Kip Community Center: We will be providing lunch on 18 July to the guests at Canon Kip,
a mixture of older low income people and street people, who appreciate our food as well as the time we take to show that we care. Assistance will be needed
with making and bagging the lunches the day before and then on the date, visiting with the people and distributing the food. A sign-up sheet will be posted in Lathrop Hall as the date approaches.

General Announcements

Today, Fr Robert Kossler celebrates at High Mass to mark the sixth anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood, 5 June 2004.

After coffee hour today will begin a three-week series, Fundamentals of the Episcopal Church, on what it means to be an Episcopalian, how the church is organized, and what we believe as a faith community. This series is intended for those seeking to join the Episcopal Church from another faith tradition or none, but is also ideal for those seeking to refresh their commitment to the church.

Monday, at 7pm, the Vestry will meet following the Mass of the Holy Spirit.

Next Sunday, remember one and all to bring some simple edible (e.g., a bag of cookies from the grocery store) or drink to share at coffee hour as we offer fellowship. As we have no designated hosts in the summer, any help setting up or cleaning up would be appreciated.

Thanks are proffered to those who made the reception for Corpus Christi such a wonderful and friendly event: Pamela Vaughn, Fr John Porter, Tom Veitch, Eric Clark, Suellen Thompson, Michael Dwyer, John Pitoniak, Sam Cantin, William Branson, Michael Stroup, and Lewis Brown.

Ricardo Avila thanks all those who contributed to a festive reception last Sunday to celebrate his first time serving as a deacon: Pam Vaughn, Fr John Porter, Tom Veitch, Daniel Schwartz, Christopher Fredricks, William Branson, Anna McHargue, Jeremy Burke, Lewis Brown, and Bonnie Barberini.

A gentle reminder from the Walsingham Cell that May was annual dues month: So far, Bonnie Barberini, Michael Barlowe +, Paul Burrows +, Eric Clark, Dominic George +, Michael Haines, John Porter +, Michael Stroup, Renee Schwartz, Suellen Thompson, and Pamela Vaughn have renewed. Please remember to mail your annual dues of $25 to the Church of the Advent, attention Pamela Vaughn, to ensure proper credit. If you have already sent your renewal yet are not listed here, please contact Pamela Vaughn at plvaughn@gmail.com.

Wish List for Building and Grounds funds: Last year’s vestry paid for painting the Pitman room, yet the church did need to spend an additional $1,000 to reinstall the bookshelves and install the new shades in the Pitman and Bowersox Rooms. If willing to help replenish our Building and Grounds fund, please write your check to Advent, noting “Building and Grounds” in the memo line. Any amount would be appreciated.

Choral evensong will be offered today, 13 June, at St Francis’ Episcopal Church (399 San Fernando Way, SF) at 5:30pm, with the music culminating in Handel's Coronation Anthem II, “Let thy hand be strengthened.” A festive reception will follow in the Guild Hall.

Next Sunday's readings will be Isaiah 65:1-9; Galatians 3:23-39; Luke 8:26-39.

Reflection Corner

Monday being Flag Day, let us prayerfully support the ideals that flag represents:

“Lord God Almighty, you have made all the peoples of the
earth for your glory, to serve you in freedom and in peace:
Give to the people of our country a zeal for justice and the
strength of forbearance, that we may use our liberty in
accordance with your gracious will; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.”
