From Martha Stookey, Book Club Coördinator: Do you think you know what democracy is? Think again!  Paul Woodruff would argue, rightly, that most of us do not understand real democracy or the challenges that must be met to make it happen. America doesn't have it now, but it could -- if.... This book has something for everyone:  an eloquent story with history, drama, compelling personalities, a dab of philosophy and ethics, with a hearty dose of

revolutionary ideas to move the modern world along the path toward real democracy.

Donations are also welcome to help offset the cost of feeding nearly 400 guests (make checks payable to Church of the Advent, earmarked “Lunch Bunch”).

Paul Gregory will be riding in the AIDS/LifeCycle event from San Francisco to Los Angeles , 1-7 June. Please consider sponsoring him towards his goal of $3,000 via www.aidslifecycle.org/1768, his personal page. All contributions, to be included in this raffle, must be received by noon on 30 May. See Paul for more information.

Remember your Mother today, be she among the quick or the dead:

Almighty God, you who keep us under your wings like a mother hen: Bless our mothers, who, through travail and joy, have brought us into this world, that they may be sustained by your mothering presence and grow from hope to glory as your beloved children; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
